Can I use IRSC Open to learn the frames of the IR remote controller of an air conditioner?
No, to integrate the air conditioning units is necessary to use IRSC Plus instead of IRSC Open. The reason is that air conditioning remote controllers combine into a single IR command all the operation variables of the machine (On/Off, setpoint temperature, operation mode, fan level, slat position), so these frames must be formed by the IRSC Plus at the time of transmitting. IRSC Open only sends fixed or static infrared commands.
Are all the IR remote controllers supported by the IRSC Open?
IRSC Open is able to control audio/video devices whose frequency is within a limited range [30kHz, 33kHz, 36kHz, 37kHz, 38kHz, 40kHz and 56kHz]
Nevertheless, the touch panel InZennio Z38i is only able to detect infrared transmissions whose frequency is within a limited range [36kHz, 37kHz y 38 kHZ], so only the remote controllers whose carrier frequency is within this range can be analyzed and configured on the Z38i.
Optional: In case of an IR control with a transmission frequency outside the range detectable by Z38i, contact our Technical Support team.
IRSC Open allows configuring up to four remote controllers, why is it delivered with only one infrared emitter? What can I do to control more than one device?
The IR emitter must be placed very close to the IR receiver of the device to be controlled. To integrate more than one device with only one IRSC Open, it is necessary to place all the devices very close so that the emitter signal may reach the different IR receivers.
If the devices cannot be placed close, there is the option of using a common infrared extender that allows splitting the signal into several IR emitters.
Why do I need a touch panel InZennio Z38i to configure the IRSC Open? Is it possible to use some other Zennio touch panel?
To configure the IRSC Open, it is necessary to extract the infrared commands of the remote controller. This is the objective of the specific application program developed for the InZennio Z38i, IRSC Open Capture, which takes advantage of the infrared receiver built into the touch panel to get the codes to enter in the configuration of the IRSC Open.
This application program is only available for the touch panel InZennio Z38i so it is not possible to use any other Zennio device to read the infrareds commands.
I have the hexadecimal codes of my IR remote controller, can I enter them directly in the IRSC Open configuration parameters?
No, IRSC Open only recognizes the codes extracted from the IR remote controller with the help of the touch panel InZennio Z38i, or those provided by the Zennio Technical Support. Submit a query to our Online Technical Support with the hexadecimal codes to check if it is possible to extract the IRSC Open configuration frames from them.
Every time I read the IR codes of the remote controller with the InZennio Z38i, the main frame varies, is it normal?
Some hexadecimal characters from the main frame may vary from some readings to others; however, this does not affect the operation of the device. On the other hand, the buttons codes must not vary.
When I try to read the IR codes of the buttons, the Z38i reports that the commands are "Too short" or "Too long", what can I do?
If the touch panel reports any of these error messages, check the following:
- Make sure the batteries have enough charge.
- Point the remote controller directly to the IR receiver placed at the bottom of the InZennio Z38i.
- Press firmly the buttons, not too short.
- Avoid fluorescent lamps or other devices that can cause interferences.
- Ensure that the carrier frequency of the remote controller is within the range [30-56kHz].
- Try different combinations of buttons.
Follow these indications and if the messages still appear, contact our Online Technical Support.
What are "Macros" and what are they for?
Macros allow chaining several of the configured commands and send them forming a sequence with a single order.
Macros can be used to set the volume to a certain level, to turn on the stereo and automatically play a certain song, etc.
For more information on setting macros, see the section 3.3 MACROS of the manual of the device (link).
I have configured the IRSC Open with the frames obtained from the InZennio Z38i but the device does not respond, what can I do?
- Make sure that you have placed the IR emitter of the IRSC Open attached to the IR receiver of the device to be controlled.
- Check that you have entered the main frame and the button codes correctly, without spaces between the characters.
- Check that the selected carrier frequency is the one that corresponds to the remote controller.
- Check the connectors to the KNX bus and the IR emitter.
- Check that the IRSC Open sends the same commands as the remote controller with the help of the InZennio Z38i and the application IRSC Open Capture.
If the issue is not solved following the above indications, contact our Online Technical Support.
Application programs inside ETS projects
I have imported the project file (.prX or .knxprod) with the application program in the ETS software but the project seems to be empty, where is the device?
The device does not appear in the ETS “Topology” view because it has not been assigned a physical address yet. To view the device, it’s necessary to open the “All Devices” view, then it's possible to drag it to the topology window.

What does safe mode mean?
When a device is running in safe mode the programming LED blinks in red, meaning that the application program is halted.
How to set a device in safe mode?
To activate the safe mode, keep the programming button pressed while connecting the device into the KNX bus. This process is described in the datasheet of the device.
How to exit from safe mode?
To exit from safe mode, simply plug the KNX bus into the device but do not press the programming button this time. This way the programming LED does not blink, meaning that the application program is running (safe mode is not active).
How do a download in safe mode?
When an incidence is caused during the download, it is recommended to do a safe mode download, to ensure that the previous corrupted download doesn’t affect to this new download:
To do a download in safe mode, you should follow the next steps:
- Disconnect the device from KNX bus.
- Connect the device to KNX bus while holding down the programming button. The programming LED will start blinking indicating that the device is in safe mode.
- Once in safe mode, download the application program completely to the device.
- When the download is finished, disconnect and reconnect the device from the bus.
